Palisades Park is a lovely little strip of land up on the cliffs overlooking the Pacific Coast Highway and Santa Monica Beach. Located right along Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, Palisades Park is the perfect place to watch the sunset over the water. Bring some canned wine and snacks and make a date out of it!
Tips for Visiting Palisades Park
- To get their by public transit, take the Metro Expo line west to its last stop (Downtown Santa Monica). Head west two block to Ocean Avenue, then turn north. Palisades Park begins at the northwest corner of Ocean Ave and Colorado Ave, right near the entrance to the Santa Monica Pier. If you’re driving, there’s a parking lot at the north end of the park.
- The best time to visit Palisades Park is during golden hour and sunset on a sunny day. Just be sure to check the weather forecast before you visit! Sometimes it will be sunny inland, but it will be cloudy by the beach. That darn marine layer.
After sunset, head over for dinner and drinks at The Misfit, grab a pint at Ye Olde King’s Head, or see/be seen at The Bungalow. Do NOT go to The Craftsman unless you want to get yelled at/hassled by the staff.
I took these pictures last year with my friend Dave, who helped me adjust the shutter speed on my camera to get some really cool shots of the cars on the PCH. In between shots, I caught Pokémon. I can’t believe how long ago that was! Life was so simple back then. Anyways, I just love these photos of Palisades Park and wanted to make sure that I shared them with you.
