This month’s music picks are brought to you by all the pop and hip hop stations in LA, since I don’t have an aux cord and get stuck listening to the radio while I’m sitting in traffic on the 10. But seriously, I can’t believe how much my musical tastes have changed since I moved to LA. I don’t think I even knew who Drake was last year. Now Drake is all I know.
It’s good to branch out though. There’s a lot more to the musical universe than indie rock. However, I still have some indie rock on this playlist. My Discover Weekly playlist on Spotify hasn’t caught up to my new tastes yet, apparently.
This indie rock banger just makes me want to dance around in my room in my underwear. Based on the promise of this song, I listened to the rest of their album and I didn’t really like it because they are shameless Tame Impala impersonators. But if you love Tame Impala and want more Tame Impala-esque stuff to listen to (without it being as good), definitely check out this band.
Robyn – Show Me Love
DO YOU REMEMBER THIS SONG?! Ugh, so good! This is my #1 shower jam.
The 1975 – The Sound
Honestly, I used to think this band was pretty lame but their new album is surprisingly good.
Drake & Friends – One Dance
I like Drake’s new album a lot, but it does kind of sound like he had Jamaican Jerk chicken one time and was so *inspired* that he made this weird, semi-dance hall album.
HAIM – ‘Cause I’m a Man
Love HAIM’s cover of this Tame Impala song! Also love that they didn’t change the gender at all.
Calvin Harris & Rihanna
Yeah, I’ve become one of those people that listen to Calvin Harris. So what? And for the record, I’m taking his side in the whole breakup with Taylor Swift.
I also like this song because I have a big old crush on Rihanna. There, I’m glad I finally got that off my chest!
The Arcs – Put a Flower in Your Pocket
Dan Auerbach, who hurt you?! Oh yeah, probably your ex-wife who’s been fighting you over locks of Bob Dylan’s hair. It’s okay, I’ll be your new hot young girlfriend.
Mike Posner – I Took a Pill in Ibiza
I have a fantasy of covering this song with just an acoustic guitar and a harmonica. I just feel like this could easily be a Neil Young song, right?
What have you been listening to lately?
