Greetings from Ohio! I’m currently visiting my home state, hanging out with family and friends in my various former hometowns of Ohio. Man, I love Ohio in the summer. It’s so green and warm here. The farmers markets are full of local produce and the sun is actually shining (well, sometimes). My parents held a BBQ on Saturday and my aunt brought fresh strawberries from White House Fruit Farms (post coming!). My mom, sister, and I mixed Strawberry Basil Mojitos from the leftover macerated strawberries and fresh basil growing in the backyard.
This refreshing cocktail is perfect for warm summer nights (and using up all those fresh strawberries from the farmers market). Use fresh strawberries and basil for best results.
1/4 cup macerated strawberries (see note below)
3 fresh basil leaves
1 shot white rum
1 shot Rose’s lime juice
How to Make Strawberry Basil Mojitos
Muddle strawberries and fresh basil leaves together. Add rum and lime juice. Fill glass with ice, add soda water and stir.
To make macerated strawberries: Clean, hull, and slice strawberries. Put in a large bowl, add 1/4 cup sugar, and stir. Let stand for 30 minutes while the strawberries release their juices.
Um PS, how adorable is this vintage shot glass from my grandma’s house?
