For Carolyn’s 30th birthday, we had a Sunday picnic at Malibu Wines. Malibu Wines is a winery in the mountains north of LA. On the weekends they have live music and tons of Angelenos lying around, getting their wine drunk on. It was a picture-perfect day, filled with sunshine and hazy wine-soaked memories. We had tons of snacks and the bottles were flowing. The Lyft ride out to the mountains of Malibu was kind of an investment, but it was totally worth it.
Funny story, while Carolyn and I were waiting for our bottles of wine, Shelby spotted some pink 30 balloons in the storage area behind the bar. She asked if she could have them and the people were like, “Well, okay.” BUT THEY WERE PERFECT! What are the chances that those would be there, leftover from someone’s else birthday party?
We still have them in our apartment and they keep scaring me.
The scenery at Malibu Wines is absolutely perfect. I was literally so tempted to run up this hill and have a photoshoot with my friends, but I managed to control myself.
Wine drunk Angelenos as far as the eye can see.
Happy birthday, buddy!
Tips for Going to Malibu Wines
- 1. Get there early so you can grab a good spot. They have tables and chairs, but if you want to sit on the grass, bring a blanket.
- 2. Split your Uber fare with your friends. Your ride from LA will be like $60, but split 4 ways it’s not so bad.
- 3. Bring snacks and water! Malibu Wines only has wine, and literally nothing else.
- 4. WEAR SUNSCREEN!
- 5. Skip the wine flight, and go straight for the bottle. May I recommend the rosé? It comes in an ice bucket and it’s delightful on a hot day.
