Hey buddies! I’ve been pulling 12+ hour days launching a new website for Marika.com, so here’s an oldie but goodie from the archives! I figure not that many new Halloween novelty songs have been written in 2015, so this playlist should still be totally relevant š
If you’re having a spooky scary Halloween party, you need a sick mix for your ghoulish guests to jam out to. Lucky for you, I have compiled a list to get you started on the ultimate Halloween party playlist. Let’s get this costume party started!
First we’ll start with the classics…
1) Michael Jackson – “Thriller”
2) Ray Parker, Jr. – “Ghostbusters” – SICK BASS LINE
3) Bobby “Boris” Pickett – “The Monster Mash”
Let’s just get these out of the way. If you hadn’t already thought to start your mix with these, then maybe you should reconsider having a Halloween party at all. You’re not a true fan. Maybe we can host Friendsgiving at your house this year.
4) Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks – “Little Fang”
Avey Tare of Animal Collective created this solo project to explore a vintage Halloween/spooky dance party sound. I have been waiting all year long to dance to this track at a costume party.
5) Missy Elliott – “Get Ur Freak On”
First of all, I am very disappointed that this song wasn’t used in any promos forĀ American Horror Story: Freakshow. This song strikes a great balance between being scary and making you want to put your thing down, flip it, and reverse it.
6) Harry Belafonte – “Jump In the Line”
In my mind, this song is 100% associated with the masterpiece Beetlejuice. Also,Ā 50’s music is absolutely the scariest music of all. Can we just agree on that?
7) The Black Keys – “Strange Times”
I have a pregame ritual that involves me dancing around to this song in my underwear, drinking wine, and chanting “LET’S GET WEIRD!” I highly recommend it.
8) Rockwell ft. Michael Jackson – “Somebody’s Watching Me”
This song is so much spookier in 2014 with the NSA and cell phones and whatever it is I’m supposed to be worried about with my privacy.
9) Kanye West & Friends – “Monster”
First things first, Kanye West is basically my favorite human/demi-god, and I cannot make a playlist without him. Besides, I get chills every time I hear Nicki Minaj’s verse. Damn girl!
10) MGMT – “Brian Eno”
This song just sounds like a Scooby Doo episode where they’re like getting chased by a ghost or something…then all of a sudden they’re chasing the ghost…then they all realize they’re chasing the ghost and turn around and the ghost chases them! Turns out it was just mean Mr. Jenkins.
BONUS TRACK: Tracy Jordan – “Werewolf Bar Mitzvah”
How can you beat these sick lyrics: “Werewolf bar mitzvah spooky scary/Boys becoming men, men becoming wolves”? Hahahaha BRB dying.
What do you have on your Halloween party playlist? Do you even HAVE a Halloween party playlist? Get it together, people.
