GREAT AMERICAN ROAD TRIP: ARIZONA TO CALIFORNIA

GREAT AMERICAN ROAD TRIP: ARIZONA TO CALIFORNIA

This is part 3 of my road trip series. Check out part one and part two!

After our long journey through Texas, New Mexico, and much of Arizona, my mom and I were SO HAPPY to reach my aunt and uncle’s house in Scottsdale for a weekend of fun and relaxation. Scottsdale is not what I expected at all. It’s very green and lush there with lots of gorgeous flowering plants and all the homes are stunning. However, with highs around 110 degrees every day, it was almost impossible to function!

When it’s so hot all summer, having a pool definitely pays off. It looks foggy in the photo, but it’s actually vapor from the misters on the back patio. They’re supposed to cool outside areas off by about 10 degrees, but then it’s still 100!

My aunt and uncle have the cutest little boy Westies named Woody and Lou after the Ohio State and Notre Dame football couches, respectively. The both have little collars for their teams and they are adorable. Lou is really outgoing, and Woody is more timid. The first night we were there he was just peaking around corners looking at us but he was too scared to say hi. By the next morning though he was laying in my lap while I was drinking coffee. I have a way with dogs, ya know.

My aunt and uncle have a gorgeous view of Camelback mountain from their yard. My grandma seems to think that the mountain is ugly, but I think it’s cool. But what do I know?

For dinner one night we went to Frank & Lupe’s and I had some incredible tamales. They were spicy!

Old Town Scottsdale has lots of cool restaurants, bars, and shops. We tried walking around because it really is beautiful, but it was SO HOT especially after eating a schloo of Mexican food.

There’s literally a misting fountain to go stand in to cool off. It’s just that hot!

The boys! They were so good. They really wanted to have their picture taken!

We had another incredible meal at Kitchen 56. I had a great turkey and egg melt sandwich with a salad. Plus a little hair of the dog in the form of a Mimosa πŸ˜‰

After driving through the dessert all day on Monday, we finally reached LA! My cousin Jason and his husband Derek took us out to dinner at Quarters, a fun Korean BBQ place in Koreatown.

I’ve never had Korean BBQ before. They grill the meat right in front of you at the table. There is a lot of food, so if you’re not starving I would under-order! We got a combination meal for 2 people and it was plenty for 4.

Also, props to my mom for using chopsticks!

After sleeping for 1000 hours, my mom and I went down to Venice Beach to have a walk. It was so weird, since this is where it all began for me 5 months ago! We stayed at Venice Beach when Jason and Derek got married in January, and that’s where I decided that I was going to make the plunge to move to Los Angeles.

We finally made it to the Pacific Ocean after countless hours in the car! It was bittersweet because I had to take my mom to the airport after we had our walk on the beach. I miss her a lot, but I’m so glad we got to spend the week together experiencing an incredible road trip!

  17. Wow! I'm from Connecticut and never did this road trip now that I live in LA! My brother did it all the time and can drive it in his sleep….I think it was his love for stopping in Vegas that made it so doable for him! Stopping in Scottsdale to see family must have been such an oasis in the desert for you….happy you made it safe back to your new state that has been beckoning to you all this time!! xo
