Hey buddies! I apologize, this post is majorly pic-heavy. You may have heard on Twitter, but I had food poisoning over the weekend and I really just wasn’t up to writing a post, especially one with this many pictures of food! So my editorial calendar got all screwed up and I had to turn a 2-part post into one. #bloggerproblems.

ANYWAYS…I have returned from my beach vacation on Amelia Island, Florida. We had an amazing time and I really can’t recommend the place enough. The beaches are gorgeous of course, but there’s so much more to do than just go to the beach! The town on the island is called Fernandina, and they have a cute little downtown area with great restaurants and shops. There’s a sizable state park on the island with hiking and a historical fort, and nearby Cumberland Island is a beautiful, pristine National Park (post coming!). It’s a quick drive from Jacksonville (where they have an airport) and also near historical St. Augustine. I’ve only gone in May and September, but even during tourist season it never gets too “touristy.” There’s tons of locals and everyone is super friendly.

We’re a dog-loving people, obviously. My aunt and uncle had their two dogs at the house while were there, and the dogs couldn’t resist giving kisses to people in the pool.

My aunt’s dog, Noonan, is a mini golden doodle. He was pretty concerned about my big camera at first, but he eventually warmed up to it.

I love all of the tropical vegetation on the island.

One night we had an amazing meal at Joe’s 2nd Street Bistro. I had the grouper filet grilled in a corn husk wrapper with black beans, rice, and salsa. This picture doesn’t really do it justice. It was SO GOOD!

Ya gotta have Corona on vacation.

My absolute favorite restaurant on the island is called Timoti’s. It’s a small, casual seafood place with outdoor seating and all wild-caught seafood. We always try to go at least twice every vacation, and I’ve really never had a bad meal there. On the left is the Ahi Tuna Poké Bowl with avocado, rice, and a soy-based sauce. HOLY CRAP. It was so good I seriously would like to eat it right now. On the right was my dad’s fried clam po’ boy which also looked incredible. He said it was really good, but I don’t think he felt like sharing. I don’t blame him.

At the end of the main drag is the marina. It faces west so the sun sets over it, and it’s just a great view.

My family and I went to the Palace Saloon for their famous “pirate punch.” I wish I would have got better pictures of the inside because it was just incredible. They had a huge, hand-carved wood bar with all of these ornate details. The Palace Saloon is the oldest bar in Florida, and I’ve also been to the oldest bar in Ohio so maybe this is a thing for me now?

One night we went to 29 South for dessert. This was the Chocolate Soufflé Disaster with butter pecan ice cream.

This was their “Coffee and Doughnuts” dessert. I was obsessed with it! There’s a Krispy Kreme doughnut in there with custard and it was served with coffee-flavored ice cream. It was so unique and SO DELICOUS.

Bonus food pic! The lobster rolls from Timoti’s. Once again, I heard they were good from my dad but I didn’t actually have a bite.

It was a really great trip all-in-all. I feel refreshed and semi-tan and ready to buckle down and work on moving out of my apartment. I have a some REALLY EXCITING news for you this week, so stay tuned for that!

How have you guys been?

  1. What can I say about Amelia Island that you didn't say in these amazing pictures. The island has the oldest running bar in Florida, the Palace Saloon, and miles of pristine beaches and old bed and breakfast inns. This is actually a hidden gem in Florida, the perfect place to retire, to vacation, or to just kick back and call home.
