Another month is almost finished, which means the rent is due (blegh!). But I find if you put on a little music and have a little dance around, the constant hemorrhaging from your bank account isn’t so painful. Here’s my picks for April:
Tame Impala – Let It Happen
If you listen to one song from this post, make it this one. Tame Impala is one of the best bands that is making music right now. Kevin Parker is a genius. I am going to see them in May and I CAN’T WAIT. I am also super excited for their new album.
Five – When the Lights Go Out
Okay, hear me out. I’ve been obsessing over late-90’s/early-2000’s British pop music lately. Sure, it’s hella shallow and cheesy. But the production quality is so good! This song is SO STUPID. Like I really hate the way that guy says “yeah” at the beginning, but that doesn’t change the fact that I’ve had it stuck in my head 24/7. PS I sincerely hope you watch this video because it is AWFUL!
Safia – Counting Sheep
This song is brand new but it reminds me of that stupid Five song. I wish I would have had this for my Halloween mix because it’s so spOoOoOoOoky! This song is so sick. I totally love it.
Doldrums – Loops
A dream job for me would be picking music for people to shop to at Forever 21. If I did that though, i would pick stuff like this which is probably a bit too disorienting for shopping. This song jumps around to so many different keys and time signatures. It’s so interesting!
Leon Bridges – Coming Home
This vintage-sounding ballad would be the perfect soundtrack to sitting on a porch at sunset on a summer’s day with a glass of lemonade (or beer). I need to start listening to more stuff like this and stop messing around with spooky, disorienting, cheesy pop music but I can’t help myself.
Sugababes – Overload
Another British pop song from 2000. Sensing a theme here? I’d actually never heard this song before but it’s really cool. It’s not your typical pop music from that era.
Ms. Dynamite – Dy-Na-Mi-Tee
I think this song goes well with the Sugababes track. And guess what? It’s British and it’s from 2002.
Tame Impala – Cause I’m a Man
Can you guess that I’m jazzed about the upcoming Tame Impala album? This chill track is about how weak me are. Wonderful.
What music have you guys been into lately? Let me know in the comments!
