OH MY GOD YOU GUYS. Django Django is one of my favorite bands and they haven’t come out with anything since 2012 but this was totally worth the wait. It’s so perfect when a band comes with new stuff that resonates with their old stuff but is also breaking new ground for them. I just love it and I am SO PLEASED.
I was lucky enough to have a boy (oOoOoOoOo!) send me some of his playlists on Spotify and I was really excited that he has GREAT taste in music. Great taste in music might be a perk to some, but it’s essential to me. Anyhow, isn’t this song cool? I just looked it up and apparently it’s from 2013. I’m not sure if I find this disappointing or not. On one hand, I was excited to find a cool hidden soul gem from the 70’s. On the other, I am always happy to hear new, awesome R&B.
I just stumbled across this song randomly one day when I was listening to MGMT, and then today I discovered that this song came out in 1996. Can you believe that?! It sounds like it came out, like, yesterday. That bass is so amazing. I ended up listening to this band a lot more and they have a lot of really cool experimental stuff (if you’re into that). They have one song where the beat in the chorus is made up of fireworks noises. It’s just so interesting to me that this came out in the mid-90’s!
This song has so much potential to get stuck in your head. I kept thinking of it at my birthday party for some reason. It has a nice Velvet Underground vibe and I really love it when the female vocals come in.
I first heard this song on Broad City, which is actually where I weirdly get a lot of the music I like… ANYHOW this whole album is sick and I really recommend it for when you’re aggressively pre-gaming and putting on your warpaint for the club. You know what I’m talking about.
My favorite NPR station plays music during the day, and one day during lunch I happened to leave the office and heard this amazing duet in my car. Like, oh, those harmonies. Damn. If that doesn’t pull your heartstrings I don’t know what will.
Client Liason – Pretty Lovers
Just like perfect 80’s-inspired dance party music. What else do you need to know?
D’Angelo came out with his first album in 14 years last year and damn is it good. You should really listen to it, if only out of respect for his amazing body in that one video. Like…whoa.
I don’t know what I thought the Grateful Dead would sound like, but I never really expected to like them. I started to listen to them and yes, despite all the hippie-dippy stereotypes, they are pretty great. I can’t say that I will ever give Phish a chance but I AM trying to be more open-minded. Anyhow, this is a really gorgeous ballad.
Oh, did you hear my birthday was a series of unfortunate events? IDK Lesley Gore died at like the same time as my birthday and I’ve had this song stuck in my head a lot. It has a really interesting chord progresion that I never appreciated until now. Also, did you know that Lesley Gore was a lesbian and all-around badass? It pretty much makes this song even better than it already is.
Just a sexy little song to hump someone special to. Ya dig?
What have you guys been listening to?
