THE BEST PART OF #GIRLBOSS

posted in: BLOG, LIFESTYLE | 1

So, like every other blogger on the face of the earth, I recently read Sophia Amoruso’s #GIRLBOSS and I thought it was really great. If you are a human who works (so basically everyone), I highly recommend it. My favorite part was the chapter on “magical thinking,” specifically how you  need to keep your eye on the prize even when you’re just trying to get through the most mundane of tasks:

Visualization…works when we actually get off our asses and do stuff. How totally crazy is that? Each time you make a good decision or do something nice or take care of yourself; each time you show up to work and work hard and do your best at everything you can do, you’re planting seeds for a life that you can only hope will grow beyond your wildest dreams. Take care of the little things – even the little things that you hate – and treat them as promises to your own future. Soon you’ll see that fortune favors the bold who get shit done.

I love the idea of thinking of all the little things as “promises to your own future.” When you first start out in your career, you’re always given a lot of repetitive, un-fun tasks that no one else wants to do. Whether that’s answering phones, filling out paperwork, or washing dishes: GET THAT SHIT DONE. You won’t have to do it forever, believe me. After 2 1/2 years at my company, I’m finally transitioning the last of these mundane tasks to some new girls and I am so, so happy. You will get there!

KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE PRIZE.

  1. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book! I seriously had to slow myself down with reading it bc I would have read it in one sitting and I really wanted to savor it. Sophia is such a badass and I relate to her story so much. If you ever get a chance (or haven't already), watch some of her interviews on Youtube. I knew I had to get the book because she gives you so much advice that's easily applicable to whatever job/industry you're in.
